Warhammer 40K Damage Calculator (11th Edition)

This free calculator computes the full probability distribution of a Warhammer 40K attack sequence — hit, wound, save, and damage — for any attacker and defender profile. Enter weapon and defender stats to get average models destroyed, average damage, the chance to wipe the unit, and a per-weapon breakdown.

How do you calculate damage in Warhammer 40K?

Every 40K attack runs the same sequence: roll to hit against the weapon's skill, roll to wound comparing Strength to Toughness, the defender takes saves modified by AP (or uses an invulnerable save), and unsaved wounds deal the weapon's damage. This calculator runs that whole chain as exact probability math rather than a single dice-off — including overwatch (all hit rolls become 6+), attacker and defender ability modifiers, and multi-weapon units — then reports the numbers that matter at the table: expected models destroyed, the chance to wipe the unit outright, and which weapon actually does the work. A suggested firing order helps you sequence shooting so damage isn't wasted on models that were already dead.

Want the calculator wired to your whole army?

Inside the 40 Carrot virtual tabletop, this same calculator connects to a database of roughly 2,000 unit profiles and to your imported army list — one click loads a real matchup instead of typing stats. You also get the true-scale practice board, printable data cards, and an AI tactical advisor that can see your board.
